Inventive and full of colorful details in description of our life as Victorian gentleman sees it. A highlight: William and Illyria go to Sci-Fi fan convention (the only place, Angel presumes, where Illyria will look inconspicuous).
speakr2customrs has started the story in May 2006, then stopped updating in July, but soon after the announcement of season 8 returned to the story and even incorporated some season 8 spoilers into the last two chapters.

Post-Potential. In order to prevent the end of the world, Buffy asks Willow to do a spell that’s supposed to send her back in The Gift so that she could save Dawn without dying. Spike goes with her. Of course, the spell goes a bit wrong and our heroes land in another time frame, - in Harsh Light of Day, when they fight and Spike still has a gem of Amara on his finger...
The rewrite of season 4 with souled, chipless and non-allergic to sunshine Spike sounds like a dream come true. So far, it's hard to predict where the story will go, but I'm looking forward for an epic story.

Post-NFA, Giles summons Buffy to his estate in England. There, she finds Spike in coma, which may or may not have something to do with the shanshu prophecy.
Buffy finally figures out the quickest way to wake him up. But Spike’s a little pissed off that Buffy put her life at risk to do it, and Buffy’s pissed that he’s pissed. Which makes rescuing Angel and Gunn from an alternate dimension just a wee bit tricky, but they are gonna give it a shot anyway. Chapter 13 has a great, evil twist, and I'm very curious where the heroes will go after that.

Post-NFA. Hunting for a magical arftefact, Buffy incidentally stumbles across Spike and Angel who also need the artefact for a spell that could protect them from Senior Partners. She finds out that the became lovers and realises that she's ready to join them. Fic focuses on the dynamics of B/S/A relationship and what makes it tick.
What I like about this fic - that it breaks the tradition of putting Spike between Buffy and Angel "because they can't have sex with each other so they use Spike to have sex through him". (I find this idea as degrading for the three of them.) Elisi makes them equal, providing humor and agnst by exploring the rich history of their interaction in the past.

Post-life Serial, After Buffy's day from hell thanks to the Geek Trio, Willow decides to "help" by making Buffy forget she ever died. Willow's spell goes wrong and Buffy forgets everything that happened to her after she had been called as a Slayer. Imagine 20-years-old Buffy with memories of reckless 15-years old girl. Of course, she is intrigued by Spike and flirts with him. But Spike is sure that "real" Buffy will dust him if he takes advantage of her amnesia, so he refuses to get physical...

It was written in 2005 and currently Elisi is planning a sequel. Post-NFA, Buffy meets Spike and Angel in Rome where they fight the minions of Senior Partners. The voices are spot-on and the plot is complex and full of cliffhangers.
Elisi is also an essayist - she writes great BtVS/AtS analysis - and it shows in her precise, sharp descriptions of characters' motivations as Buffy and Spike try to verbalize their emotions.

I'm eager to provide the links to the stories I read and loved. Since the old CDS crashed and we moved to another place, I started saving the links with short descriptions in a separate file and figured out that it becomes too big to handle in about three months. Hence these "seasonal" posts.

And re also writing essays, then it's odd, because often there's things that can far easier be said in fic form than an essay. ('Play It Again, Sam' is the example that usually comes to mind.)

It was quite popular idea during season 5 when many BAers tried to adapt to Spike's new role. Arguably the trick was working with Spike when he was unsouled and partly worked with Angel (after all, there is a lot of darkness in Angel), but Buffy sounded like 50-years-old woman in these fics. A jaded, cynical, embittered woman who has absolutely no dreams, no hopes, no joie de vivre.
Then Spike has got his soul, and this motivation became even less credible. Yet the tradition was continued in some BA fics. Maybe because the most important premise for a BA writer is that Buffy can't love anybody but Angel, so another motivation for threesome is very problematic.

Hee! I use the occasion to thank you for this rec. I rarely discover a fic where all the voices are so spot-on. Some writers would have explained that Spike refused to have sex with Buffy "because he loves her so much", but Addie Logan goes for less romantic and more convincing motivation. I love the way she writes Dawn who's ecstatic to have a 15-years-old sister, Xander, who, in the end, can accept Spike as Buffy's boyfriend if it's making her happy. And 15-years-old Buffy's reflections on Spike are a hoot!

Actually, Chris, it was you who inspired me to start reccing fics systematically. I'm awed by your work in fandom and I love your fics (although, I'm ashamed to admit, I only read those that feature Spike).

I saw your recent list of recs and noticed that you've included some Spuffy fics I mentioned. That was sweet.
