I may be in the minority among Spuffy fans but I think that from artistical standpoint Spike's story would have been better if he hasn't been resurrected on AtS.
I think a lot of Spuffy fans felt the same way, especially with how they dealt with the Buffy issue by just having Spike not tell Buffy he was back from the dead. Spike shuld so clearly have gone to Buffy, instead Spike seemed to regress to his role in season 4 Buffy as comic relief. Part of the problem IMO was that, although Xander was billed as male lead, it was really Spike as Buffy male lead in all but name. And once he was moved to Angel and became "the other vampire with a soul", his journey became very much about not overshadowing Angel because obv Angel had to be male lead there. I know there was support for a Spike/Fred relationship among some fans, but I always thought we would never get Spike as love interest in the same way, or even sex scenes as passionate as we got on Buffy with the bed crawl with Harmony, kissing Dru's arms, all of the Spuffy scenes. Instead it was just wham bam with Harmony on a table when Spike was on Ats
Part of what appealed to me with Spike was how devoted he was to Drusilla, and then with Dawn and Buffy. (Season 4 Spike with Harmony is my least favourite version of the character). So I figured that the horrible screwing Harmony on his desk was the most they would ever give us on Angel. It was such a male-oriented show in comparison to how soulful Spike could be on Buffy, even when he was soulless (i.e in Intervention, Tough Love, The Gift etc). Angel and Riley are just the type of alpha male that don't appeal to me, so I wasn't suprised when Spike's main moments on Angel's show were things like the Destiny fight blegh
