Russian TV aired only the first five seasons. The first two seasons were aired by the biggest Rissian Channel, but it put the show in 1 a.m. timeslot. Seasons 3-5 were aired by cable TV Saturday and Sunday mornings. The ratings were low so they decided not to proceed.
Actually, Russian TV is very bad and regular audience got used to absolutely idiotic shows. When they see anything different they switch off the TV set.
So those Russians who don't have Internet are still sure that Buffy died forever. :)
Fans organized campaing, wrote letters asking to air the last two seasons - with zero results. But we quickly realised that it's easier to download the remaining seasons than to ask our TV channels to air something decent.
Ukrainian TV aired all seasons of Buffy. The core Russian-language BtVS fanbase is situated in Ukraine and Kiev is the center of all things Buffy for Russian and Ukrainian fans. Every summer we have a small convention there.
Curiously, the popularity of BtVS in Russia grows these days. People who know English buy DVDs in English. Russian pirates released the first seasons on DVD with Russian voiceovers. Some months ago Russian BtVS LJ community has been created,ru_btvs. So I think Buffy has a great future!
