Sure he is, but when Joss has to choose between good story and good ideology, he always chooses good story. The last two seasons of BtVS feature male characters as key figures in world-saving. Because such plot twists had provided Joss with the best stories.

As to AtS, I fail to notice feminist ideology in this show. Maybe I'm wrong, but I see it as a very masculine story where women are primarily serving as catalysts to hero's journey.
