Can you imagine the controversy such a scene in a realistic movie could cause? Yet the genre allows writers to explore hard dilemmas without accusations of these or that political agendas.

BSG has been accused of having a political agenda from both right and left, genre is no protection. Moreover, genocides and military expediency are part of our history and there are plenty of movies that deal with different aspects of such historical events. The Downfalleven presents Hitler in his final days as a compelling and charming character and was widely praised. BSG does exploit the Cylon aspect to put the viewer into the POV of an Abu Grahib guard but overall that episodes suggest that torture is ineffective, Lebonen gives Starbuck no useful information.

Caveman's logic is simpler - "you kill and your enemy dies". That's why they win and astronauts lose.
Fred say so as Illyria consumes her but in Shells Illyria finds her army turned to dust. Caveman loses too. By NFA she's come to understand an astronaut's grief.
