Jasmine's arc may be regarded as a metaphor of the failure of socialism; season 5 is a verdict to the corporate society.

Hmm... to me, the Jasmine story always looked like a direct jab at organized religion, and the S5 corporation-bashing was more of a personal vendetta of Joss' toward the studios he'd worked with. It's more the relationships between the characters that seemed fundamentally different to me in S7 Buffy and S5 Angel, the way people were following Angel or Buffy for totally different set of reasons.
